Cellulitis

Cellulitis treatment: carboxytherapy

Cellulitis treatment: carboxytherapy

Carboxytherapy is a medical therapy consisting in the administration of carbon dioxide subcutaneous for therapeutic purposes through micro-injections with thin needles.

Carboxytherapy has ancient origins, as early as 1932 in France Royat was used percutaneously on patients suffering of vascular diseases, thanks to the waters rich in carbon dioxide. Several scientific studies have shown that carboxytherapy improves skin elasticity, reactivates local micro-circulation, stimulates the collagen fibers and breaks the membrane of the adipocyte with consequent lipolytic and liposclastic effect without damaging the connective tissue, vessels and nerve structures surrounding. Carbon dioxide is naturally produced by our body, therefore it is not toxic even in high doses and is disposed of at physiological level. After a single treatment, the gas is normally reabsorbed in 5-10 minutes. Carboxytherapy is a safe method that has only some undesired effects (feeling of discomfort from subcutaneous crackling, possibility of bruising, tingling or reddening of the treated area).

How many sessions are necessary?

It obviously depends on the case but on average, for example, to treat cellulite in the buttocks and thighs they need 7 to 10 sessions (one every 1-2 weeks) lasting about 20 minutes.

Are there any contraindications to carboxytherapy?

Yes. Carboxytherapy is not recommended in case of acute or chronic cardiovascular problems, respiratory problems (such as chronic asthma …), skin infections in progress, patients with neoplasms or haematological diseases and pregnant patients.
